Defense, transport ministers receive notifications on air crash
Minister of Defense Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar and Minister of Roads and Transportation Mohammad Rahmati received written notifications from Jalal Yahya-Zadeh, Mohammad-Reza Mir-Tajjeddini, Eshrat Shayeq and Reza Talaei-Nik.
The notifications reminded the ministers of their obligation to respond to questions from the public on the facts surrounding the mishap and the need to conduct investigation to find the cause.
A funeral procession was held this morning for martyrs of an Antonov-74 military plane belonging to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) that crashed at Mehrabad International Airport Monday morning killing 30 revolutionary guards and 6 crew.
Two of the plane's remaining passengers, also revolutionary guards, were saved but suffered injuries and are now being treated in hospital.
The crash is believed to have been caused by a technical defect in one of the ill-fated plane's engines.
A technical investigation has been launched by experts of the IRGC's Air Force.
The MPs, in their written notifications, pointed out that Monday's crash was the fourth in the country in less than a year.
They then urged the ministers to conduct an investigation and come up with a credible explanation for these air disasters in order to avoid a repeat.
They also suggested the ministers consider the issue of reforming Iran's aging air fleet.
